About The Instructor

Lois Dunn, Enrolled Agent, has recently joined Dunn & Co., CPAs, PA after retiring from the Internal Revenue Service after a professional career of almost 34 years. Lois began her IRS career as an Internal Revenue Agent in the North Dade office in 1988.  After several years as a Revenue Agent in the field, she transitioned to the Problem Resolution Office (PRO) in the Plantation district office. Upon returning to the field, Lois was selected to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Passive Activity Loss issue. She assisted Revenue Agents with their passive activity loss issues and created and taught training and CPE for the IRS in this issue.

Lois's IRS career led her to the Large and Mid-Size Business (LMSB) Division in IRS Examination, a successor organization to Large Case, currently Large Business and International Division (LB&I). As a Team Member, Lois worked on examination issues for some of the largest corporations in South Florida. It was in LMSB that Lois was again selected to be a SME in IRC Section 263A, Uniform Capitalization rules (UNICAP) and the accompanying Change in Accounting Method rules under IRC section 481.

The Appeal's Division of IRS selected Lois as an Appeals Officer where she continued as a SME in these technical issues. She was a technical advisor to the Appeals Officers hearing issues for both Small Business Self Employed (SBSE) and LB&I examinations. She also created and taught educational courses for Appeals Officers in these issues.

Prior to her career in taxation, Lois held several positions at various Wall Street firms including Merrill Lynch and Dean Witter. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY where she majored in International Marketing. Since earning this degree, she has completed many undergraduate and graduate courses primarily in accounting and taxation at Pace University, Florida International University, and Florida Atlantic University.
