About The Instructor

Julian has practiced public accounting continuously for approximately 11 years.  His experience includes auditing, consulting, and providing forensic accounting and valuation services to entities across a number of industries.  Representative clients served include a wide range of litigants; professional service, construction, insurance, and manufacturing firms; not-for-profit entities; and governmental, quasi-governmental, and other direct-support (governmental) organizations.

Julian is a director in the assurance services practice of Thomas Howell Ferguson P.A. CPAs (THF), and takes the lead in the firm's forensic accounting and litigation services practice.  His role on each assignment varies; in addition to managing many engagements directly, he serves as an independent quality control reviewer or technical resource for other projects.  Julian has served as an expert witness and as a consulting expert in a significant number of forensic accounting matters, including providing testimony.  He has also taught continuing professional education courses for his colleagues at THF, addressing matters pertaining to accounting standards, auditing, and fraud.

Julian earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance (2005; Magna Cum Laude) and Masters of Accountancy (2006) from Florida State University.  On behalf of THF, Julian coordinates the John Perry Thomas Accounting Speaker Series with the FSU College of Business.

Other service to the accounting profession includes involvement at the state level through repeated appointments to the Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA), including election as Chair for 2014-15 (following his election as Vice Chair for 2013-14), and election to the Governing Council of the FICPA for 2016-18.

Julian's community involvement includes being a current or former board member for the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts, and Leadership Tallahassee, as well as serving on the Finance committee for each of those not-for-profits and in various officer roles; serving as the Chairman of a Citizens Advisory Committee in Leon County, Florida; and being a member of Leadership Tallahassee Class 32. 

Additionally, Julian was recognized as an inaugural recipient of the FICPA's "26 Under 36" award in 2013 and as a recipient of the second annual Florida State University National Alumni Association's "Thirty Under 30" award.  In the fall of 2014, Julian participated in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) nationwide Leadership Academy in Durham, North Carolina.  In 2016, Julian was recognized with the "Standing Ovation" award by the AICPA's Forensic and Valuation Services Division, presented at the AICPA FVS Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
