Dr. Mike Slotkin is Professor of Economics in the Bisk College of Business at Florida Tech.  He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1995, and his scholarly activity surrounds the application of economics to the environment, to regional economies and industries, and pedagogical issues in the conduct of business education.  Dr. Slotkin regularly teaches economics core and elective courses in both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and has been awarded the College of Business Teacher of Year Award six times.  He has presented papers at international conferences held in Europe and the United States, and is a frequently cited source in regional newspapers such as The Florida Today and The Orlando Sentinel.

In terms of applied work, Dr. Slotkin consults with corporations, government agencies, NGOs, and litigators.  To date he has co-authored over thirty economic impact or technical reports, and is now collaborating with Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism in producing a triannual tourism publication highlighting lodging & accommodation metrics, economic impact analyses, and tourism innovation features.   The statistics section is driven by a recently started data-gathering network composed of hotels/motels comprising the County’s 9,000 rooms.

Dr. Slotkin has made numerous media appearances with respect to Brevard County’s economy and housing market, and is a frequent speaker at industry/chamber/economic development forums.  Originally from Miami, Florida, he resides in the town of Grant-Valkaria with his life-partner Karen and their three cats:  Zippy, Curry, and Luna.  He is a long-time and somewhat long-suffering Miami Dolphins fan.
