Overview:

The skills and competencies required of CPAs today and into the future are constantly changing and the body of knowledge that new CPAs need to master has grown immensely.

Entry-level CPAs are handling tasks that require more critical thinking, professional judgment, and problem-solving skills because many of the basic tasks that had been done by new CPAs have been automated or offshored. According to the AICPA and NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy), compared with 1980, there are three times as many pages in the Internal Revenue Code, four times as many accounting standards, and five times as many auditing standards.

This program is structured to provide an update of relevant standards for the CPA practitioner or management personnel to consider when preparing and/or auditing financial statements or other associated attestation activities of financial information, concentrating on those standards that mostly impact private companies.

Objectives:

  • Identify recently issued FASB Accounting Standards Updates (ASUs)
  • Determine the updates issued by FASB at the recommendation of the PCC
  • Recognize ongoing FASB projects
  • Identifying and analyzing recently issued audit standards
  • Recognize key proposed changes to the attestation standards for examination and review engagements
  • Recognize the importance of obtaining a sufficient understanding of a small business client and the client's environment to effectively plan an audit in response to the assessed risk of material misstatement in the financial statements
