Legislative Update: CPA Day at the Capitol registration opens

The FICPA is excited to announce that our annual CPA Day at the Capitol is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2027 – and registration is now open!
Last year, we set a record for the largest advocacy event in our history, as more than 150 FICPA representatives took meetings or delivered legislative materials to every single member of the Florida House and Senate, advancing our legislative priorities and protecting the value of the CPA license.
Thanks in part to our work during CPA Day at the Capitol, the FICPA prevented the proposed elimination of the Florida Board of Accountancy for the second year in a row.
No one tells the story of the CPA profession better than you. That's why the Governmental Affairs Team once again invites you to Tallahassee ahead of the 2027 Legislative Session to help us advocate for our FICPA priority legislation.
This year, your presence will be especially important. Florida will soon welcome a new Governor, Senate President and Speaker of the House – and for the first time in more than a decade, no CPA will serve in the Florida Legislature.
Whether it’s your first CPA Day or you’ve attended for years, we'll make sure you'll have the support and resources you need to confidently advocate for the profession or simply listen and learn alongside your group.
Once at the Capitol, participants will be grouped with key FICPA leadership or staff to hold meetings with legislators from their region, sharing firsthand the value and contributions of CPAs.
FICPA Hosts State Legislative Policy Meeting in Orlando
The FICPA’s State Legislative Policy (SLP) Committee met on Thursday in Orlando to approve the Institute’s 2027 Legislative and Regulatory Policies.
The SLP Committee is responsible for developing the policies that guide the FICPA’s advocacy in Tallahassee and help ensure our legislative priorities reflect the needs of the profession. The Committee brings together a diverse group from across the profession, with members representing regions across Florida, firms of varying sizes, public practice, business and industry, and education. This broad representation helps ensure the FICPA’s advocacy priorities are informed by the perspectives of CPAs throughout the state and across the profession.
With the 2027 Legislative and Regulatory Policies now approved by the SLP, they will next be presented to the FICPA Board of Directors. Thereafter, the Governmental Affairs Team will execute the approved strategy and go about its work of protecting and promoting the CPA profession in Florida.
The FICPA thanks its volunteer leaders for their support of our advocacy efforts and for the time and energy they spend on behalf of the Institute and the profession.
President Trump Signs Disaster Relief Extension Bill Led by Steube, Scott
President Donald Trump last week signed into law the Doug LaMalfa Federal Disaster Tax Relief Certainty Act (H.R 5366).
The bill extends the federal tax deduction for qualified disaster-related personal casualty losses by defining a qualified disaster area as an area with respect to which a major disaster has been declared if the incident period begins on or after Dec. 28, 2019, and before Jan. 1, 2027.
