Legislative Update: On the road to election season
October 02, 2026

By FICPA Governmental Affairs
With just one month until 2026 midterm elections, Florida lawmakers are at home in their districts, both campaigning ahead of election day on Nov. 3 and working ahead on the issues that will define our state’s 2027 Legislative Session.
That makes it the ideal time for the FICPA Governmental Affairs Team to be out on the road, meeting with members at chapter events and making in-roads with the legislators who will shape state policy in the months ahead. The work that the FICPA Governmental Affairs (GA) Team does during this time is critical to ensuring that the CPA profession is positioned for success in the upcoming year.
Weir, GA Team Attend Board of Accountancy Meeting in Orlando
On Friday, FICPA President & CEO Shelly Weir, Chief External Affairs Officer Jason Harrell, Director of Legislative & Political Affairs Jesse Christian and Liberty Partners of Tallahassee President Jennifer Green were all in attendance at the Florida Board of Accountancy meeting in Orlando.
The FICPA has always enjoyed a close, productive relationship with the Board and has worked tirelessly in the last two years to protect it from proposed elimination.
We value the Board’s expertise and continue to champion its effective, efficient stewardship of the profession in Florida.

Harrell Delivers Legislative Update to the Brevard Chapter
Last week, Chief External Affairs Officer Jason Harrell paid a visit to the FICPA’s Brevard Chapter, offering a look back at the 2026 Session and look ahead to both the midterms and the FICPA 2027 legislative agenda. The Brevard Chapter is home to many longtime members of the FICPA, and we sincerely appreciate their continued support of the Institute and its advocacy program.

Just in case you missed it, we’re eager to remind you that our annual CPA Day at the Capitol is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2027 – and registration is now open!
Last year, we set a record for the largest advocacy event in our history, as more than 150 FICPA representatives took meetings or delivered legislative materials to every single member of the Florida House and Senate, advancing our legislative priorities and protecting the value of the CPA license.

No one tells the story of the CPA profession better than you. That's why the Governmental Affairs Team once again invites you to Tallahassee ahead of the 2027 Legislative Session to help us advocate for our FICPA priority legislation.
This year, your presence will be especially important. Florida will soon welcome a new Governor, Senate President and Speaker of the House – and for the first time in more than a decade, no CPA will serve in the Florida Legislature.
Whether it’s your first CPA Day or you’ve attended for years, we'll make sure you'll have the support and resources you need to confidently advocate for the profession or simply listen and learn alongside your group.
Once at the Capitol, participants will be grouped with key FICPA leadership or staff to hold meetings with legislators from their region, sharing firsthand the value and contributions of CPAs.
