- Member Appreciation Day 2026: When Does a Business Have Nexus?

Nellie Akalp, Chief Executive Officer, CorpNet

Nellie Akalp

Nellie Akalp is a passionate entrepreneur, business expert and mother of four. She is the CEO of CorpNet.com, the smartest way to register for payroll taxes and maintain business compliance across the United States. Nellie is internationally recognized as one of the most prominent experts on small business startup and compliance matters, contributing regularly to media outlets like Entrepreneur, Inc.com and Accounting Today. Each month, her regular columns and small business advice reach more than eight million people.

When Does a Business Have Nexus?

Nexus, a connection, link, or connected group that come together, can apply to you or your clients without you even realizing. Maybe your business-owner clients adopted a permanent work-from-home policy, or they expanded into new states due to increased demand. These are just some situations where a business has established nexus. But what about other scenarios? And what does a business have to do to stay compliant?

In this session, Nellie Akalp of CorpNet.com will explain what nexus is and how to educate clients on compliance tasks to keep their company in good standing with a remote team.

Objectives:

  • Summarize what constitutes nexus status across each state.
  • Evaluate when foreign qualifications may be needed.
  • List steps to set up payroll for a remote team.
  • Recognize insights on sales and use tax nexus.

- Member Appreciation Day 2026: Form 1040 Delivery in the Age of AI

Petar Iliev, Chief Revenue Officer, TaxDome

Petar Iliev

Petar Iliev is the Chief Revenue Officer at TaxDome, a fast-growing SaaS platform serving thousands of accounting and tax firms globally. He has helped scale TaxDome to over 35,000 tax and accounting professionals and leads its global sales, marketing, and customer success efforts. Petar is known for turning data into strategy, and his work has empowered thousands of firm owners to adopt smarter, more scalable growth practices. With a background in product-led growth, partnerships, and education-first marketing, he brings a global perspective and a deep understanding of the evolving accounting landscape.

Tax return delivery is not only the final step of the workflow — it is a critical compliance stage in the Form 1040 filing process.

Even after returns are prepared, many firms experience delays due to missing taxpayer authorizations, last-minute changes, incomplete documentation, or unclear communication. These issues can impact filing timelines and compliance with IRS requirements.

This program focuses on federal tax practice and procedures related to return delivery and filing readiness, including taxpayer authorization (e.g., Form 8879), documentation standards, record retention, and secure communication of taxpayer data in accordance with IRS e-file requirements.

The session examines how delivery of Form 1040 returns has evolved — from in-person walkthroughs to email attachments to AI-era digital experiences — and teaches participants to turn compliance steps into client touchpoints, transforming disconnected steps that can delay filing into a unified experience that builds the client relationship while meeting IRS compliance.

Participants will learn how to ensure returns are “filing-ready,” reduce compliance risks, and avoid delays between completion, client approval and submission. The session draws on operational data from 15,000+ firms and will be delivered as a live lecture with audience polls, scenario-based examples, and Q&A.

  • Objectives:
  • Recognize every client-facing touchpoint — including routine administrative moments like tax return delivery — as a retention moment that either strengthens or erodes the client relationship.
  • Identify where their firm sits across a three-era framework of advisor-client relationships, and which delivery moments are currently costing them retention.
  • D
etermine how to apply a five-principal delivery framework to client-facing touchpoints that drive retention and faster payment.

  • Identify the core challenges facing EBP practices: quality, margin, talent, capacity and technology.

This practical, vendor-neutral session shows CPAs what AI is, what it can do across the tax workflow today and how to adopt it safely. We cover where AI is already pulling weight, including document handling and K-1 extraction, workpaper preparation, tie-outs, and research, all source-linked with the reviewer in control. We also walk through IRC Section 7216 in plain English and the key questions to ask any vendor before sending a client file.

Objectives:

  • Explain what AI agents are and how they differ from earlier AI tools.
  • Identify where AI can save time in tax-prep workflow.
  • Apply a practical framework to evaluate AI vendors on security and data handling.
  • Describe IRC Section 7216 considerations when using third-party AI in return preparation.

- Member Appreciation Day 2026: The Hidden Leaks Killing Offshoring ROI

Anshul Agrawal, Founder & CEO, June15 Consulting, June15 Consulting

Anshul Agrawal

Anshul Agrawal has revolutionized how CPA firms leverage global talent, establishing himself as one of the most prominent champions of offshore talent in the US accounting industry. As the founder of June15 Consulting, he pioneered the direct ownership offshoring model, enabling CPA firms to build and lead their own offshore teams with unmatched success.

With a wealth of experience advising Fortune 500 companies and CPA firms, Anshul is on a mission to help CPA firms tackle their most pressing challenges by leveraging global talent. He also hosts the Accounting Trailblazers Podcast, where he shares invaluable insights on offshoring and its transformative impact on the accounting profession.

Most small and midsize CPA firms expect offshoring to deliver long-term ROI, but somewhere between year one and year three, the returns quietly erode. Cost savings shrink, capacity gains plateau, and partners wonder what happened to the business case they signed up for. The reasons are rarely dramatic. They are small, compounding leaks across hiring, training, country selection, model fit, turnover, and vendor structure that go unnoticed until the math no longer works. Whether your firm is new to offshoring or already offshoring but not getting the results you want, this session will give you a clearer understanding of what drives long-term ROI, why some firms succeed where others fall short, and a decision framework you can take back to your firm.

Objectives:

  • Identify the hidden leaks that quietly drain offshoring ROI at small and midsize firms, why they happen, and how to fix them.
  • Recognize the difference between short-term cost savings and the long-term economics that determine whether offshoring pays off.
  • Compare the cost, risk, and ROI of different offshoring models and destinations.
  • Walk away with a decision framework to create or improve your firm's offshoring strategy.
  • Learn from a real small firm case study showing what long-term offshoring success looks like.

- Member Appreciation Day 2026: PCI - What you need to know

Howard Goldstein, Regional Director, Merchant Advocate

Howard Goldstein

Howard Goldstein has been an entrepreneur for 35 years and has spent the last 19 years of his career in the Payment Card Industry. He has provided consulting services in many areas including contract negotiations, expense reduction, PCI compliance as well as software and equipment integration.  He loves helping business owners improve their bottom lines and has been a Regional Director for Merchant Advocate since January 2013.

The presentation goal is to educate those in attendance on the various complexities and potential pitfalls of the unregulated payment card industry that can cause fees to be higher than they should be.  Attendees will come away with an understanding of what PCI Compliance is and why it is so important for merchants across America to make sure to engage in best practices for the secure processing of credit cards.  This knowledge can potentially help the CPA firms themselves as well as be an asset to their clients.  Several case studies will be discussed showing the egregious nature of this unregulated payment card industry and why merchants should be concerned about this area of expense for their businesses.

Objectives:
SSPFPS No. 1 stands for Statement on Standards in Personal Financial Planning Services No. 1.  I'm not sure if this applies to my presentation.  Perhaps we can discuss this in greater detail if you need clarification on my presentation.
