• This session will focus on where U.S. trade policy and tariffs may be headed next after the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the legality of the tariff imposed by the Administration under the Int'l Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). It will cover the history of tariffs and their traditional role in providing significant revenue to fund the U.S. Government and the way that function has evolved with the post-WWII explosion in global trade thanks to the creation of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1947 and the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995 - and how the rise of China has re-shaped the entire global trading system. It will focus on the interplay between customs valuation and transfer pricing for related party pricing and will conclude with planning ideas and strategies that can be implemented on a short-, medium-, or long-term basis.
