Advocacy Alert: Legislature returns Tuesday to continue extended Session
June 02, 2025
By FICPA Governmental Affairs
Late Friday evening, House Speaker Daniel Perez and Senate President Ben Albritton announced in separate memos sent to their respective chambers that an agreement has been reached on a budget framework and that the Legislature will return to the Capitol on Tuesday, June 3, to continue work on finalizing the extended 2025 Legislative Session.
The presiding officers detailed their timeline for the continuation of Session and highlighted some of the major components of the budget agreement and high-level tax policy that will be included in the framework.
The Legislature will return on Tuesday, June 3, for budget conferencing, which will conclude on Thursday, June 6.
All remaining issues will then be " bumped" to the budget chairs and presiding officers to finalize negotiations during the following week. As a reminder, the budget conference is the process by which joint committees resolve differences between the House and Senate's proposed budgets. The conference report becomes the final General Appropriations Act.
Legislative leaders have set a goal to vote on the budget by June 16.
Specific to the CPA profession: The initial announcements did not provide any additional information on the outcome of the concerning components of SB 110. At this time, no additional member action or outreach to legislators is needed. We will provide further updates and issue calls to action as needed.
Rest assured, the Governmental Affairs Team will be closely monitoring all legislative activities during this time to ensure that the interest of the CPA profession is protected.
We will issue a full recap of the 2025 Session and what it means for the profession once the Legislature's work has concluded.
