Shelly Weir, President & CEO of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants:
This past year has been challenging for us all, and I am proud of the way the Institute has continued to serve you, our valued members. There's a reason CPAs were labeled as essential workers from the very beginning of the pandemic. You have been a lifeline for your clients and your firms during uncertain and unprecedented times.
While you've been busy protecting businesses and jobs, the FICPA has been tirelessly advocating on your behalf in Washington and Tallahassee, all in an effort to fulfill our No. 1 goal: protecting your license. Throughout more than a year of separation, more than a year of adaptation, we've never lost sight of our mission: serving our members.
At the FICPA, we've never stopped advocating on your behalf. With new guidance and updates being issued at a rapid pace, our connections with local, state and national leaders have given CPAs an important voice in the time of uncertainty. This spring, we saw our hard work rewarded, with the passage of a new public accountancy bill. This bill clarifies licensure by endorsement requirements, allows for CPE reciprocity, and ensures the state ethics course contains a majority of Florida laws and rules.
Throughout the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, we've worked to deliver the same great CPE you've come to expect, while keeping your health and safety our priority. We brought our premier conferences and seminars fully online, providing the education, tools and resources you need - all from a safe distance. And with virtual CPE gaining traction, we've enhanced our online offerings, launching an all new FICPA.org, an on-demand 24/7 Learning Library, and a fully complimentary Knowledge Hub. We've also introduced our exclusive FICPA blog, featuring member-only content, like our legislative Impact Report and articles from Florida CPA Today magazine.
Just as we've worked to serve your interests, we've watched our members lend a hand to one another. Our FICPA Connect message board has become a go-to forum for collaboration and discussion. We've seen CPAs helping CPAs, answering complex questions regarding PPP, the Employee Retention Credit, and more.
Now, after being apart for so long, we're excited to look forward. As the year progresses, we will welcome the return of in-person learning and the opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues we haven't seen in far too long. Soon, we'll be able to get back to what we love most: meeting our members, where they are.
Kristin Bivona, 2021-22 Chair of the FICPA:
We're not just entering a new year; we're kicking off a new season of opportunity for the FICPA and its members. It's your membership, loyalty and enthusiasm that gives us our sense of purpose. It's your feedback that helps us chart our future course and expand our professional reach.
Without you, there is no FICPA.
Please know that we're always here for you, advocating on your behalf and protecting your license, no matter the circumstances.
We look forward to a bright future, together, stronger than ever.
