About The Instructor

As a CPA Financial Planner, Matt strongly believes in the power of financial planning and wise investing to help clients achieve and protect financial independence. 

Matt is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Florida. During the past 20 years in financial services, he's accumulated an "alphabet soup" of professional credentials including Personal Financial Specialist, Certified Information Technology Professional, Certified Financial Planner, Accredited Estate Planner, Certified Management Accountant, Charted Financial Analyst, Charted Financial Consultant, Chartered Life Underwriter, and Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

Before joining Flavin, Nooney & Person, Matt was the Chief Investment Officer for an investment advisory firm managing over $2 billion of client assets. He has received awards from the American Institute of CPAs for his professional achievements in financial planning and information management and technology assurance.

The Institute of Management Accountants recognized Matt with a Certificate of Distinguished Performance for having a CMA exam score in the top ten worldwide.

Matt started his academic career at the University of Central Florida. Go Knights, Charge  On! At UCF, he studied Physics, with a specialization in optics and lasers. From there he went on to earn an MBA and pursue a career in business. Along the way he has learned how to write code in half a dozen languages, rebuild car engines, and is one of the few CPAs who is also a licensed commercial truck driver.

Matt is a prolific writer and a voracious reader. He has written hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles on financial planning and investments. He frequently writes, speaks, and teaches continuing professional education classes on a wide variety of financial topics.

Giving back to the profession and the community is important to Matt. He is a member of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has served on the FICPA's Investment Committee.

When he's not watching the markets, Matt enjoys coaching baseball, fishing, and volunteering with the Boy Scouts.
