About The Instructor

Mike Holloway, who was named the first head coach of the combined men’s and women’s track & field program on June 19, 2007, has directed a clear course for the University of Florida’s success both on and off the track, molding  the Gators into one the nation’s elite over the past 26 seasons.

Holloway is one of five coaches in Division I history to win at least eight men’s team NCAA Championships, one of three to win at least six since 1980, and is one of three in history (along with Ted Banks and John McDonnell) to win at least four titles both indoors and outdoors.

Holloway’s nine national titles are also the most by any head coach in the history of Florida athletics.
Following a sweep of the 2018 SEC Outdoor Championships, Holloway became the first coach in history to be both the SEC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year.

In addition to the nine NCAA Championships that Holloway and the Florida men’s team have won since 2010—four more than any other Division I program during that span—the Gators boast 14 runner-up finishes at the NCAA Championships during his head coaching tenure.

Those 23 top-two finishes since 2003, Holloway’s first season as the men’s head coach, are 14 more than any other Division I program during that span.
Prior to the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships, the Gators were just the third team in Division I history to record top-three finishes at both the NCAA Indoor Championships and NCAA Outdoor Championships seven consecutive times, joining Arkansas (1992-2000) and UTEP (1975-82) as the only other programs to do so. UF’s run of seven consecutive top-three finishes at NCAA Indoor Championships from 2009-15 was the third-longest streak in Division I history.

In the current men’s NCAA Championships sprints (60m, 100m, 200m, 400m), hurdles (60mH, 110mH, 400mH) and sprint relays (4x100, 4x400)—all of which are Holloway’s primary focus—Florida boasts astonishing numbers going all the way back 1996, his first year as a men’s assistant coach for the Gators.

Additionally, there have been four sweeps of the men’s 110-meter, and 400-meter hurdles, and Florida owns three of them, doing so in 2004, 2005, and 2017. And only the 2017 Gators nabbed the 60-meter hurdles title that same year.

On the women’s side, with eight individual national titles and Kyra Jefferson’s collegiate record-breaking 200 meters in the last six seasons, the Gators have become a consistent contender at NCAA Championships.

Florida’s women are one of seven programs to record six top-four finishes at NCAA Championship meets during the Holloway era, which began in 2008. They are one of only five with eight top-five NCAA finishes since 2010. And they are the only ones to finish in the top six at each of the last five NCAA Championships.

At the conference level, Florida’s women have won five SEC Championships--the third-most of any program since Holloway took over in 2008 (only behind LSU's six and Arkansas' 12). The Gators' three SEC Indoor Championships since 2008 rank second in the league. The women have also finished fourth or higher at 18 of the 25 SEC Championships with Holloway as head coach.
During Holloway’s head coaching tenures and time as a men’s assistant coach, Gators under his tutelage have broken or tied nine collegiate records, four of which stand today.
