Like you, internal controls and process improvement expert Marvalene King has seen the need for businesses to strengthen internal controls and evaluate processes for optimization to achieve business objectives. Does management review accounts? Is access to the accounting system restricted? Are internal controls prioritized? Are there inefficiencies hindering employee productivity? Does internal systems/applications 'talk' to each other? Are bottlenecks slowing down processes? 

With over two decades of operations, and most notably, every day, in the trenches business experience, unlike many consultants, her viewpoint is profoundly different. Marvalene values and shares with business leaders the importance of communicating and explaining change 'in advance' and finding creative ways to include employees in process improvement. When it comes to change communications, employees will want to know 'what's in it for me?' 

Marvalene, sometimes referred by business leaders as a 'problem solver' and 'solutions expert' for her ability to identify deficiencies, analyze, and synthesize data, which helped mitigate risk for businesses, is known for her fresh creative approach to managing projects and expertise in shaping productive relationships with business leaders and all stakeholders, and connecting with them on an individual level.

Her successes include: (a) streamlined and enhanced digital signage posting process, which significantly reduced posting time-frames by 90%; (b) Project Manager and Lead for county agency Budget System Migration and Banking Institution Implementation – managed and evaluated systems and related procedures for adequacy of internal control environment; (c) redesigned Excel application file – consolidated data for Realized Capital Gains/Losses and Variable Interest Entities footnote disclosure to ensure NAIC reporting requirements; (d) Team Lead for one full lifecycle JD Edwards-Xe implementation – converted to new accounts payable and GL accounting system through testing and deployment, which increased discount savings; (e) Project Manager – implemented process improvement initiatives that resulted in accurate processing of $7 million of accounts payable invoices within a 6-week period.        

Marvalene is an adjunct instructor at Saint Leo University. She joined Saint Leo University in 2018. Marvalene is also a Doctor of Business Administration candidate (leadership specialization) at Walden University. She obtained her Master of Accounting and Master of Business Administration degrees from NOVA Southeastern University. Marvalene's 20 years of operations experience comprised diverse industries, including insurance, beverage, and various county agencies, such as a sheriff's office to name a few. In her current role at Saint Leo University, she teaches accounting and management courses at the university's Tampa Education Center. Prior to transitioning into academia, Marvalene worked as a senior associate for a Big Four accounting firm. She has served on the board of the Hillsborough County Head Start Community Foundation and is currently a Partner Facilitator teaching Cash Flow Management workshops for the Small Business Development Center -- Entrepreneur Collaboration Center in Tampa.
