About The Instructor

Gary McGill is Director and PricewaterhouseCoopers Term Professor in the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida. He joined the faculty in 1986 after earning a Ph.D. at Texas Tech University. Professor McGill is a CPA and spent several years in tax practice prior to becoming a professor. Professor McGill teaches various graduate and undergraduate tax courses, including a graduate course in international taxation, and previously served as the director of the PhD program. His research has been published in several journals, including Journal of Accounting Research, The Journal of the American Taxation Association, National Tax Journal, Advances in Taxation, The International Tax Journal, Tax Notes, Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science & Urban Economics, Journal of Housing Research, Housing Policy Debate, Journal of Housing Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics The Journal of Accountancy, Journal of Corporate Taxation, The Tax Adviser, Taxes--The Tax Magazine, Oil & Gas Tax Quarterly, and Financial Management, and he is a contributing author to the West's Federal Taxation textbook series and is the co-author of Tax Aspects of Doing Business Abroad (AICPA, 6th Edition). Professor McGill provided testimony to the Senate Finance Committee hearings on Enron in 2003. He is the recipient of competitive research grants from Deloitte & Touche, Price Waterhouse, Ernst & Young, the Andrus Foundation, Fannie Mae's Housing Policy Research Division, the National Association of Realtors, the National Homebuilder's Association, and the AICPA. Professor McGill has served on the editorial boards of The Journal of the American Taxation Association and Advances in Taxation and is an Associate Editor of The Journal of Accounting Literature. Professor McGill is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the American Taxation Association (ATA), served as its elected Treasurer, and is past Director of Publications for the ATA. He has served on numerous ATA committees, including chairing committees on International Tax Policy, Outstanding Tax Dissertation, and Teaching Innovation. He currently serves on the board of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy. Professor McGill has received numerous awards for outstanding teaching from the Warrington College of Business Administration and the Fisher School of Accounting and he is a frequent lecturer on international and federal tax topics for academic, government, and professional organizations.
