424- Accounting Careers and Education

 

Promote accounting career opportunities to support student success and foster relations between colleges and universities through creative and effective outreach initiatives. Develop and implement accounting career programs to attract college students to become Certified Public Accountants. Develop and implement programs to support accounting educators with career development, academia needs and interaction with CPA professionals. Provide resources to foster relationships between educators and practitioners. 

Commitment Level: One meeting and two to three conference calls

Objectives:

  • Coordinate the efforts of the Institute, Young CPAs, and local chapters to attract college students to become Certified Public Accountants and accounting educators involvement with the FICPA
  • Encourage and support college students to become Certified Public Accountants through the development and implementation of programs and materials specifically designed to promote awareness of accounting profession and benefits of FICPA membership. 
  • Enhance accounting educators’ professional pathways and development, including meaningful interaction with the profession through creative programs and access to valuable tools. 
  • Create programs and services designed for accounting students to establish a long term relationship between the profession, colleges, and universities throughout Florida
  • Measure the effectiveness and feasibility of the leadership program towards students as well as the ambassador program.

107- Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards

 

Study, review and comment on exposure drafts by various professional-standard-setting bodies.

Commitment Level: Five-to-six meetings.

Objectives:

  • To study, review and comment on exposure drafts and research bulletins promulgated by authoritative standard setting bodies in accordance with the FICPA Communications Policy.
  • To discuss issues related to experiences with recently enacted standards.
  • To study and review, from the standpoint of enforcement, interpretation and application, proposed rules relating to accounting principles and auditing standards issues of the Board of Accountancy and to report a recommended position to the FICPA Executive Committee.
  • Seek input from appropriate FICPA committees and sections regarding exposure drafts and research bulletins that might affect a specialized industry or group.
  • To seek input from or provide assistance to other state CPA societies and professional accounting groups regarding matters affecting accounting principles and auditing standards.
  • To prepare and submit A & A related technical articles for inclusion in Florida CPA Today/Florida CPA Netlink.
  • To assist members in keeping current on developments in accounting principles and auditing standards by preparing and disseminating technical information.

260- Business Technology Committee

 

Provide Florida CPAs with knowledge about technology and the tools available to enhance their practice and assist their clients.

180- CFO and Controller Conference Committee

 

Plan and present a two-day conference held in Orlando with a focus on business acumen, business challenges and proficiency in accounting and tax matters related to Florida’s CFOs and Controllers, with a focus on hot topics, trends and updates. Committee members will assist with suggesting speakers and session topics. Volunteer to perform technical reviews on presentations. Assist with on-site greeting of attendees and speaker introductions and recommend potential sponsors for Conference.  Portions of this conference are simulcast.

Commitment Level: One meeting and conference calls, as needed.

Objectives:

122- Chapter Operations Committee

 

Assist chapters with programs, operations and formation and provide ficpa representation. Plan and present the Chapter Officer’s Leadership Conference.

Commitment Level: One meeting and two-to-three conference calls.

Objectives:

  • To provide assistance to the leadership of local chapters to improve their operations.
  • To maintain liaison with chapters concerning successful programs and ideas.
  • To review and update the Chapter Operations Manual which sets forth the basic objectives, goals, purpose and function of chapters within the FICPA corporate structure.
  • To increase member retention by involving current members in chapter activities.
  •  Actively and formally identify and evaluate potential future leaders.

121- Common Interest Realty Associations (CIRA)

 

Conference Sub-committee members will plan and present a two-day conference in Orlando that assists members in becoming more technically proficient in accounting, tax, consultation and certain operational matters related to Florida’s CIRA industry by sharing valuable, timely information. They will assist with suggesting speakers and session topics. Volunteer to perform technical reviews on presentations. Assist with on-site greeting of attendees and speaker introductions and recommend potential sponsors for Conference.

Submit legislative policy recommendations to the State Legislative Policy Committee, review pending legislation affecting CIRAs and provide comments to appropriate entities, as necessary.

Commitment Level: One meeting with several committee and subcommittee conference calls.

Objectives:

141- Editorial Committee (Florida CPA Today)

 

Suggest topics and issues affecting Florida’s accounting profession for publication in Florida CPA Today magazine. Perform editorial reviews and provide guidance to article authors. The Editorial Committee may or may not have vacancies from year to year.

Commitment Level: One meeting, three conference calls and email correspondence.

Objectives:

  • Identifies issues affecting Florida’s accounting profession. 
  • Suggests related topics for publication in Florida CPA Today magazine. 
  • Reviews proposed articles and develop the annual Editorial Calendar.
  • Provides guidance to article authors. 
  • Serves as technical and/or editorial reviewers for completed articles.

142- Employee Benefits Conference Committee

 

Plan and present the Employee Benefits Plan sessions at the Mega CPE Conference in Orlando.

  • Plan, direct and administer the employee benefit plans topics and speakers at the Mega Conference in accordance with FICPA policies stated in the CPE Handbook.

155- Federal Taxation Committee

 

Monitor federal tax activity and provide comments to appropriate entities, as necessary. Work with the IRS to plan agendas and presentations for programs such as the liaison meeting. Prepare the Legislator’s Tax Guide and write articles for Florida CPA Today Magazine and the FICPA website

Commitment Level: Two meetings and occasional conference calls.

Objectives:

  • Present to members special, vital tax information in depth.
  • Meet annually with officials of the Internal Revenue Service and report the proceedings to the membership.
  • Present the position of the FICPA on federal tax matters to the AICPA, the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service, and to appropriate members of Congress in accordance with established FICPA Communications Policy procedures.
  • Work with the Internal Revenue Service on future programs.
  • Foster a positive working relationship with the Internal Revenue Service. Review and submit articles for the bimonthly publication Florida CPA Today.

103- FICPA Florida CPA Summit

Recommends sessions and speakers in the areas of hot topics. Formerly, the Accounting and Business Show, this two-day event is designed to meet the specific needs of Florida CPAs and other finance professionals.  Portions of the conference will be live streamed.  One planning call, followed by one-on-one committee member discussion.  Exhibit and Learning Lab components.

112- Florida Cannabis Conference

 

Plan and present a one-day conference in South Florida for those working or interested in the medical cannabis industry.

Commitment Level: One meeting and two conference calls.

  • Work with staff to identify potential speakers to present a one-day virtual only conference in December
  • Identify CPAs and other Florida finance professionals who may have an interest in the topic
  • Monitor the status of marijuana legislation in Florida particularly in the areas on recreational use and independent dispensaries
  • Write articles, as appropriate, for Florida CPA Today on the status of marijuana regulations in Florida

Objectives:

  • To plan, direct and administer a conference with The Florida Bar in accordance with FICPA policies stated in the CPE Handbook.

Objectives:

  • Responsible for oversight of the Peer Review Program with emphasis on the acceptance process and oversight of reviewers and firms.
  • Oversee administration of the Peer Review Program.
  • Attempt to resolve any disagreements between reviewers and firms. Refer unresolved matters to AICPA Peer Review Board for resolution or to Hearing Panel for State Society reviews.

318- State Legislative Policy Committee

 

Discuss revisions to Florida accountancy laws and rules, develop proposed legislative policies, coordinate with FICPA committees on potential legislative issues and review pending legislation affecting the CPA profession. Prepare summaries for legislative positions and submit recommendations for the legislative agenda for the Board of Directors and Council's consideration.

Commitment Level: One meeting and two conference calls.

  • To develop proposed legislative policies, and review pending legislation that affects the CPA profession
  • To prepare summaries for each legislative position
  • To submit recommendations on the legislative agenda for consideration by the Board of Directors and the FICPA Council.

322- State Tax Committee

 

Plan and present the State Tax FlexTrak at the Mega CPE Conference held in Orlando and provide state taxation professionals with opportunities for knowledge sharing, professional development and advocacy on Florida-specific tax issues. In November or December, the committee holds a meeting with the Department of Revenue liaisons in Tallahassee. Submit legislative policy recommendations to the State Legislative Policy Committee, review pending legislation affecting CIRAs and provide comments to appropriate entities, as necessary.

Commitment Level: Two meetings and one conference call.

Objectives:

  • Plan and present the State Tax portion of the Mega CPE Conference held in Orlando

Develop, promote and recognize women in accounting through professional development and mentoring. Attend one in-person meeting; plan and attend the Women in Leadership Summit and participate in at least one subcommittee.

  • To develop, advance, and recognize women CPAs.
  • Create an event for women to engage in leadership development.
  • Promote and administer the AICPA FICPA Women to Watch Awards.
  • Maintain the FICPA website for resources focusing on women’s issues.
  • Serving as subject matter experts via speaking engagements.
  • Work with chapter leadership to promote women’s initiatives and events within chapters.
  • Encourage participation in the mentorship of professionals.

428- Young CPAs Committee

 

Promote young CPA participation  by coordinating  social, educational and philanthropic activities locally and throughout the state with outreach to other young CPAs, local professionals and accounting students.

    • Plan, promote and participate networking events in their local chapter areas
    • Plan, promote and participate in a CPA Day of Service event in their local areas
