On behalf of myself and the Committee I would like to personally invite you to the 2019 Florida Gulf Coast University Accounting and Tax Conference. To our frequent attendees, thank you for your advice and input to help the Committee make this a great conference.
We believe we have put together a timely and informative educational program that will prepare you for 2020 and the issues that that can be expect to affect your practice or business. The A&A topics will include work paper documentation issues, a FASB update by a member of the FASB, Fraud detection, Peer review, Fiduciary Accounting and CIRA. Timely TB topics will include a Section 199A discussion by Alan Gassman, Block Chain, succession planning, opportunity zones and a double dose of sales tax from both James Sutton and Joe Moffa that will include a discussion of current construction sales tax issues, the latest on Wayfair, its fallout and other nexus rules.

For those familiar with the conference, it will be even better than the 2018 program and those who are not we hope you consider what we believe is one of the very best CPE programs provided by the FICPA.

This session will focus on ways to identify and address potential circumventions of internal control.  Participants will also discuss real life examples of fraud and how a proper control environment could have prevented the fraud schemes.


Blockchain Applications in Business and Impact on Accounting

We will review the evolution of Blockchain and the applications in the marketplace and what Crypto-currencies are and their current applications. This presentation will include a comprehensive update on the 2019 Legislative Session including CPA licensure changes, the state budget, tax issues, regulatory issues, local government issues and many other key issues affecting CPAs, their clients and their employers. The update will also include a sneak peek at potential legislative issues on the horizon for the 2020 Legislative Session.


Creative Planning with Section 199A

This presentation will cover the primary rules and primary planning opportunities and traps for the unwary with respect to section 199A, explaining how it applies to professionals, real estate businesses, and other situations.


Current Trends in Financial Crimes - With a Focus on E-mail Compromise

Time: Thursday 3:10pm - 4:00pm Credits: 1 AA

This presentation will discuss current fraud trends/investigations, including an in depth review of Business E-mail Compromise (BEC) fraud, which is a new cyber-related fraud that is increasingly becoming a more common and significant threat. The presentation will also discuss ways to prevent BEC and what to do if you or your clients are a victim of the fraud.


U.S. Taxation of Trusts - Domestic and International

Time: Thursday 4:00pm - 4:50pm Credits: 1 TB

In this seminar, Gary and Brian explain the U.S. tax impact of creating, funding and operating both U.S. and foreign trusts. Issues addressed are relevant to citizens, resident non-citizens and non-resident aliens.  Topics discussed include the tax impact of a change in status of the grantor, trustee and beneficiaries.  Planning strategies presented include gift and estate tax avoidance, pre-immigration and pre-expatriation planning, as well as avoidance of the deemed sale of trust assets.
