This CPE course defines strategies, with a focus on long term plans and competitive advantage, and describes the levels of strategy. It looks at the rational, emergent, incrementalism and freewheeling models, and accounting-led, market-led and competence-based approaches to formulating strategies. It also describes the role of senior management and management accountants in the process of strategy formulation.

  • Identify and evaluate strategic options, including the application of the suitability, acceptability and feasibility framework.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of directors and the strategic management accountant in the strategy formulation and implementation process.
