Would you give the government a negative outlook like S&P did?
Evaluating Fiscal Sustainability in Governmental Organizations
Presented by Lynda M. Dennis, CPA, CGFO, PhD
3 Hours A&A

Is the federal government really financially sound?  How well is Florida positioned to financially weather a protracted decline in state revenues?  Is your local government promising retirement benefits that future generations can ill afford to fund?  This session will briefly review the accounting and financial reporting requirements of state and local governments focusing on how it differs from the private sector.  In addition, this session will explore a number of easy-to-calculate key financial indicators of government financial stability and sustainability.  The session will conclude with a study of the financial statements of the U.S. government, Florida, and key local governments.
