The Florida Gulf Coast University Accounting & Tax Conference was held October 29-30, 2009 at the Embassy Suites in Estero. Four of Florida Gulf Coast Universities professors spoke this year. Ray Placid, JD, CPA, presented a Current Tax Update, Ara Volkan, PhD, and CPA; presented Accounting for Income Taxes- SFAS 109 Update, Deanne Burgess, PhD, CPA moderated a panel consisting of five Beta Alpha Psi accounting students from Florida Gulf Coast University. Carl Pacini, PhD, JD, CPA, CFF, CFSA closed the conference Friday with a presentation titled, Fraud Examination and Offshore Asset Protection.

In addition, this year's conference was packed with great speakers including:
Emilio Alvarez, CPA, E.F. Alvarez and Company, P.A. presented Construction Accounting.
Chad Lang, Esq., Ford & Harrison LLP, presented Employment Law.
Christian Stormer, CPA, Bauknight, Pietras & Stormer, P.A. presented an A&A Update.

In conjunction with the conference, FGCU held a Meet the Firms event for local CPA firms and accounting students. The networking opportunity was held Friday morning before the conference and was attended by over 100 attendees.
