Schools are a wonderful place to steal because they often generate hundreds of thousands of dollars from activities at the school and most of it's in cash with little internal controls. And what is so wonderful (for the fraudster) is that the general public often has no idea how much money is being generated by a school. The many opportunities to commit fraud in schools will be discussed in this program as well ways such can be detected and prevented.

  • Understand and identify the many sources of revenue generated by schools
  • Identify fund raising activities that are most susceptible to fraud
  • Theorize how you can purchase a Coke for fifty cents and sell if for a dollar and lose money
  • Verify the collection of cash
  • Compile a list of the many ways student activity and cafeteria funds can be stolen

    Major Topics:

  • The nature of student activity and cafeteria funds
  • The timing of the issuance of receipts
  • Vending machine reconciliations
  • Proper use of student activity and cafeteria funds
  • Accounting for fundraisers
  • Athletics and deficit account balances
  • Common ways of stealing in schools
