Volunteer Opportunities
The strength of the Florida Institute of CPAs is in our members and their volunteerism. From answering other CPAs’ questions through our Listservs, serving on a Steering Committee for one of our Sections, assisting during a CPE training, donating your expertise during Peer Reviews, writing an article for the Florida CPA Today Magazine or speaking with students about the strength of your industry – none of this could be done without members giving back.
What is the best way for you to give to the profession that has impacted your life so greatly? Find what fits you best or contact Member Services (msc@ficpa.org) to help find the best way for you to volunteer to the accounting industry in Florida.
360 Degrees of Financial Literacy
The Florida Institute of CPAs has expanded the scope of its financial literacy programs by joining the American Institute of CPAs national “360 Degrees of Financial Literacy” initiative. This venture equips CPAs to improve the financial understanding of Americans in every life stage.
Florida’s Financial Fitness Friday was developed as an outreach event of “360 Degrees of Financial Literacy” initiative. CPA volunteers from across the state answer basic financial questions and provide a financial “fitness”
Many families in Florida and across the country are struggling with financial decisions, failing to prepare for retirement, and gaining high-interest credit card debt in the process. By providing this free, professional expertise of CPAs, Financial Fitness Friday can help Floridians make sound financial choices. To participate, please click here.

Become a High School Speaker
“Accounting for Success” is an innovative program managed by the FICPA High School Outreach Committee. This volunteer effort is a fundamental effort to educate high school students and their teachers about the expansive opportunities available in the CPA profession. The program works by assigning an FICPA member to each of Florida’s 600-plus high schools.
The primary role of these High School Speakers (HSSs) is to build a relationship with their schools as well as opening lines of communication with the key faculty in: mathematics, business education, guidance and faculty advisers of related clubs and organizations. The HSSs make themselves available as guest speakers for classroom presentations, career days, career fairs and other career-related events. A resource toolkit has been developed to support the volunteers as they take on this important role.
In addition to career-based programs, many CPAs are making financial literacy presentations and providing students much needed basic money-management skills. This alternate approach still allows CPAs to briefly share what their education and experience as well as providing some insight as to why they chose the accounting profession and how it has had an impact on their lives.
