MBAF Announces New Leadership of Tax and Accounting Department

MIAMI – Nationally recognized public accounting firm Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLC (MBAF) has named Miguel Farra, CPA, JD, Chairman of the Tax and Accounting Department, overseeing the firm's nine offices. Emilio Escandon, CPA, has been named Principal-in-Charge, Tax and Accounting National Operations. The announcements were made by Tony Argiz, Chairman and CEO of MBAF.

"MBAF's continued growth depends on strategically leveraging the unique capabilities of our nine offices to provide our clients with increased access to a wide range of expertise, enabling our principals to utilize more resources within the firm, and ultimately strengthen our position in the accounting industry,” said Argiz. “Miguel and Emilio not only bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Tax and Accounting Department, but have consistently guided their teams to success, and I congratulate them on their new roles.”

Farra is based in the firm's Miami headquarters, where he previously served as Principal-in-Charge of the Tax and Accounting Department. As Chairman of the Department, Farra will lead MBAF's team of highly skilled tax professionals working with clients both domestically and internationally in a variety of industries ranging from banking and manufacturing, to distribution and automotive dealerships. He brings more than 38 years of experience working with public corporations and high net worth individuals, as well as sought after forensic accounting expertise and experience serving as an expert witness in divorce and commercial litigation cases.

He has been recognized for his contributions to the accounting field, the local business community and his charitable efforts by various organizations. Farra was inducted into the Hall of Fame by Miami Dade College, received the Excellence in Accounting Award in International Tax by the South Florida Business Journal, and was presented with the Twelve Good Men Award from the Ronald McDonald House.

Farra is a member of many professional and civic organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Bar Association and Florida Bar Association, and serves as the Miami Branch Treasurer for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He was the Chairman of the Board for Miami Dade College Foundation, and currently serves on the President's Council and Accounting Advisory Board for the University of Miami, the Board of Governors for UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Institute, Director for US-Cuba Democracy Political Action Committee, Director for Camillus House, and as the Tocqueville Society Co-Chair and Chairman Elect for the United Way of Miami-Dade. Farra is a graduate of the University of Miami, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Juris Doctor.

Escandon will remain based in the firm's New York City office, where he will continue to serve as the firm's Principal-in-Charge of the Tax and Accounting Practice for the Northeast Region. In his new role, he will oversee all operational matters related to the Tax and Accounting Department. He will develop and execute strategies to maximize cross-utilization of the firm's tax professionals throughout the different offices. Additionally, he will be in charge of maintaining all standard policies and procedures, and identifying and sharing continuing education opportunities for the firm's employees.

Since joining the firm in 2005, Escandon has used his extensive experience in both public accounting and corporate tax practices to grow the Department. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he was past chair of the Federal Taxation Committee. He is also past chair of CPA Today's Editorial Committee, and is past chairman of Junior Achievement of Greater Miami. Escandon is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
