Objectives

This course is designed to help Florida licensees working in or serving the public sector, which meets the requirements for ethics continuing education. Through information and discussion, this course focuses on issues governmental CPAs face, such as professional standards, ethical conduct and independence. The course complies with the ethics requirements for Florida CPAs as set forth by the Florida Board of Accountancy.

  • Relationship of ethics regulation at the federal, state and local governmental levels
  • Chapters 455 and 473, Florida Statutes licensure requirements and ethical conduct
  • 61H1 Florida Administrative Code (FAC) and issues affecting integrity and objectivity
  • Ethical issues and regulation surrounding acceptance of gifts and entertainment
  • Chapter 112 and 119, Florida Statutes and ethical conduct
  • Issue of professional competency
  • Comparison of Florida’s independence rules to governmental standards and implication to the public sector
  • AICPA Interpretation 101-3 on independence and how the differences between attest and non-attest services for clients
  • Responsibilities of governmental CPAs on confidentiality and disclosure of public records as required by AICPA Interpretation 501-1 and FAC 61H1-23
  • Future implications of CPAs and ethics
