David L. Dennis, CPA

David L. Dennis is an Advisory Partner in the KPMG’s Management Consulting Practice. He is also the Lead Partner for the State of Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. David has 33 years of experience with KPMG and was admitted to the partnership in 1993. David started his career at KPMG as an auditor in 1979 in Dallas, TX. He completed a rotation in the Department of Professional Development in 1984 and 1985 in New York City and transferred to the Orlando, FL audit practice in 1985. David was part of the team that formed the Local Consulting Practice in 1995 and helped form KPMGs Assurance Based Advisory Services. David served as the first State and Local Government Advisory Leader from 2002 to 2012. David served on the National Advisory Training Council from 2004 to 2006, providing field input to linking our training curriculum to the individual skills development matrix.

David has been an active leader in the CPA profession over his career. David was appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott to serve on the Florida Board of Accountancy (BOA) in 2011 and 2012. He currently chairs the Finance and Budget Committee of the BOA. Continuing his involvement in the regulatory filed, he is also a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. He was appointed to serve on the AICPA governing Council from 2004 to 2012. He was elected to the Florida Institute of CPA’s (FICPA) Board of Governors in 1996 and served continuously on their Governing Board until reaching his term limit in 2011. He served as President of the FICPA in 2007-2008 and has served on and chaired numerous committees. David has been a guest lecturer in the Accounting Department of Indiana University from 2007 to 2011. He has also spoken at national industry organizations, including the Association of Government Accountants, National Association of State Auditors, Controllers & Treasurers, Government Finance Officers Association, AICPA and the Local Government Audit Forum and has spoken at numerous regional conferences.

He has served on the Board of Directors on the FICPA Education Foundation, the ACA Education Foundation, the Indiana University (Central Florida) Education Foundation Fund. He is a past president of the School Board for his Parish Elementary School and now serves as an at large member on the National Catholic Education Association. David has served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Citrus Sports Association since 1993.

David holds a CPA license in Florida and is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He received the Eligah Watts Sells award for his performance on the CPA exam. He earned a B.S. in accounting from Indiana University, where he graduated magna cum laude.
