Sydney S. Traum, BBA, JD, LLM, CPA practices law in Miami-Dade County, Florida. His professional association, Sydney S. Traum, P. A., is “Of Counsel” to a local law firm. He is author of The S Corporation: Planning & Operation and also The S Corporation Answer Book, both published by CCH/Aspen Publishers, Inc (Wolters Kluwer). Recently he authored articles in The Tax Adviser and the Journal of Accountancy. The Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA) Editorial Committee named Traum as the winner of the 2011 Writing Excellence Award for his article, “Update on S Corporations,” which was published in the January/February 2011 issue of Florida CPA Today. A licensed CPA and attorney in both New York and Florida, Traum is a past president of the American Association of Attorney-CPAs; the Dade County Chapter of the FICPA ; the Greater Miami Tax Institute; and Beth David Congregation in Miami. He is a past chair of The Florida Bar Committee on Relations with CPAs. He is currently the Board Chairman of the Florida Association of Attorney-CPAs and is Treasurer of the Harvard Club of Miami. Traum is currently serving as a member of the American Association of Attorney-CPAs Executive Committee, the FICPA Federal Taxation Committee, the American Bar Association Tax Section S Corporations Committee, The Florida Bar Probate Rules Committee, and of the Board of Directors of the FICPA Miami-Dade County Chapter. He was previously a member of the American Institute of CPAs Tax Division S Corporation Technical Resource Panel. Traum received his BBA from the Baruch School of the City College of New York (CCNY), now known as Baruch College, his JD from Harvard Law School, and his LLM in Taxation from New York University Law School. He is Florida Bar Board Certified in Taxation and in Wills, Trusts and Estates. Traum is rated AV by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

Michael O’Rourke is a sole practitioner in Broward County. His practice is concentrated in business valuation and expert witness testimony. Valuation matters center on estate-planning and settlement issues, partner/shareholder disputes and general commercial damage matters. Expert witness matters center on commercial litigation including accountant and attorney malpractice cases, financial reporting, lost profits and damages. Before narrowing his market concentration, Mike served as quality control partner/manager for several regional accounting firms in South Florida and New York. In that capacity, Mike was responsible for compliance with GAAP, GAAS and SEC reporting and disclosure.

The South Dade Chapter is raising funds to help the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). This organization helps low-income students connect with learning by seeing a practical use to schooling. They learn how to open a business.They meet mentors in the business community and they learn presentation skills as they pitchtheir business plan.
To help NFTE, our chapter is selling tickets to attend "Macy's Shop for a Cause" on August 23rd. Tickets allow holders to enter Macys earlier on that day and receive additional discounts on name-brand merchandise. The tickets are priced at $5.00. Those interested should make their checks payable to "NFTE". We will collect the checks at the registration table for this current meeting.
