Today,Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of John Dougherty and the reappointment of Morris Porton to the Pasco-Hernando Community College District Board of Trustees.
Dougherty, 55, of Spring Hill, is a co-managing member of JBH Accounting and Tax LLC. Dougherty has been a CPA for more than 25 years. He is the past president of the Greater Hernando Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Board of Pasco Hernando Community College Foundation, and has owned his own business for 23 years. Dougherty received his bachelor’s degree from La Salle University and his master’s degree from New York University. He fills a vacant seat and is appointed for a term beginning December 17, 2013, and ending May 31, 2015.
Porton, 67, of Spring Hill, is a senior vice president with Florida Traditions Bank. A reserve deputy for the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, he has served on the board of directors for the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce since 1995 and on the board of Hernando Progress since 2002. His extensive community service also includes serving on the boards of the Pasco-Hernando Community College Foundation since 2009 and Arc Nature Coast since 2007. Porton received an associate’s degree from Clearwater Community College, a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and a banking degree from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1965 to 1966. He is reappointed for a term beginning December 17, 2013, and ending May 31, 2017.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
