AICPA Council Members Visit Washington,
Meet With Lawmakers

The Florida delegation of the AICPA governing Council traveled to Washington, D.C. May 18-21, to begin their annual meeting. Council members heard from lawmakers from around the country, political pundits and Florida’s CPA congressman from the 18th District, Congressman Patrick Murphy.

The AICPA Council determines Institute programs and policies. It has approximately 263 members with representatives from every state and U.S. territory. The Council may exercise all powers requisite for the purposes of the Institute, not inconsistent with the AICPA Bylaws or with duly enacted resolutions of the membership. This includes but is not limited to the authority to prescribe the policies and procedures of the Institute and to enact resolutions binding upon the Board of Directors, officers, volunteer groups and staff. Council members met with 16 Florida Congressional members about several issues that are being discussed on Capitol Hill right now. Among the issues were two pieces of AICPA-supported legislation, the Mobile Workforce and Tax Return Due Date legislation.

Webinar Covers 2013 Election Law Changes

On May 1, Gov. Rick Scott signed House Bill 569 into law. This bill makes numerous changes to Florida's campaign finance law. The changes include: the repeal of committees of continuous existence (CCEs); contribution limits; filing deadlines; modifications to the disposition of surplus funds upon the termination of a candidate campaign; and the requirement of individuals running for a political party executive committee to now file a report.

Anyone who is interested – including individuals who maintain political committees for their business or association, or who file campaign reports – can learn about these changes with respect to campaign finance and effective dates with the webinar at the link below.

How Well Do You Know Internet Explorer?

  1. How do you expand an Internet Explorer browser window to full screen?
  2. How do you set the default opening web page?
  3. How might you find a website you viewed several weeks ago?
  4. How do you browse the Web without leaving telltale history, or other signs of your browsing activity, on a computer?


  1. Press the F11 key.
  2. Display the web page you want as your default, select Internet Options, and on the General tab click the Use current button.
  3. Click the Favorites star icon in the upper left corner, then select the History tab and scroll through your history listing.
  4. Press Ctrl+Shift+P to open an InPrivate browsing session.
