Gov. Scott Signs FICPA’s BOG-supported Legislation
On June 13, Gov. Rick Scott signed SB 328, an act relating to public accountancy, into law. The new law increases the available funds from $100,000 to $200,000 for the Certified Public Accountant Education Minority Assistance Program for fifth-year accounting students. The scholarship also was renamed the Clay Ford Scholarship Program in honor of the late Rep. Clay Ford, who sponsored the legislation and was a friend of the Institute and profession. The bill also allows for biannual, rather than annual, distribution of grants.
Another section of the new law adds a check and balance for the public by requiring all firms that engage in audits to be enrolled in a peer review program by Jan. 1, 2015. The Florida Board of Accountancy is working on rules to implement this section.

Board of Governors, Board of Accountancy Honor Thomas
On June 30, FICPA COO Glenn Thomas will retire after 31 years of service to the Institute. At last week’s Mega Conference in Orlando, the FICPA Board of Governors unanimously approved a motion to officially recognize Thomas as the FICPA’s fourth CEO-Executive Director, and to commend him for his exemplary service to the Institute and its members. In addition, the classification of Honorary Member was bestowed upon Thomas by the Board.
Dave Dennis, a Florida Board of Accountancy (BOA) and FICPA member, honored Thomas with a BOA resolution remembering his lifetime public service and recognizing his promotion of the highest ethical standards in the accountancy profession.
We are proud to honor Thomas for the contributions he has made to the FICPA. He will forever be considered a valuable member of the FICPA family.

Gmail has a new interface that helps you organize your inbox and keep it that way. Although the new tabs are said to be rolling out to all users now, they might already be in your account. Here’s how to check and enable them if they’re available.
As you may already know, the new inbox groups your email into tabs, to keep email categories organized. You can move messages between tabs, to help it learn what you want.
To enable the new tabs (provided they’re already available for your account), click the gears icon on the top right side of your Gmail inbox, then click Configure Inbox. A window should appear where you select the tabs you want.
Once you’ve done that, click Save. You’ll get an explanation of the new interface. You can categorize your email as Social, Primary, Updates, Forums and more.
