Spread the Word: Amnesty Deadline 2012
Now Until Dec. 31, 2012

Time is running out to reactivate a CPA license without penalty. If you know anyone with an inactive or delinquent CPA license, help us get the word out about the Amnesty Program, and fast!

Those with inactive or delinquent CPA licenses have until Dec. 31, 2012 to notify the Board of Accountancy in writing of intent to reactivate their CPA license – no questions, no penalties. They will now only need to complete 120 hours of CPE by June 30, 2014 to reactivate. The Board of Accountancy must receive the letter by the close of business on Dec. 31, 2012.

Letters of intent to reactivate should be mailed to the Florida Board of Accountancy at 240 N.W. 76th Drive, Suite A, Gainesville, FL 32607, or faxed to (352) 333-2508.

The CPE hours required to reactivate was limited to 120, thanks to FICPA-sponsored legislation that Gov. Rick Scott signed into effect earlier this year. For more information, call our Member Service Center or visit our website at the link below for details about the legislation. Pass it on!

Tech Tip
Set Windows 8 Defender to Scan Removable Drives

www.groovypost.com

Windows 8 comes with a built-in security program called Windows Defender. It combines real-time spyware and antivirus protection in one program. In Windows 7, Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials were separate.

Defender does a great job providing protection while online and downloading files. But viruses and other types of malware can get on your system via removable drives as well. Here’s how to make Windows Defender scan those drives during full system scans.

From the Start screen type: defender and click the Windows Defender icon under the search results.

Now select the Settings tab, Advanced and check Scan Removable Drives. Then click the Save Changes button.

Now when Windows Defender performs a scheduled or manual scan, it will check USB Flash drives, too.
