The FICPA Minority Summer Residency Program is a five-day, four-night college residency program for students interested in business, with an emphasis on accounting. The program is planned and conducted by the FICPA’s Accounting Careers Committee and the University of South Florida.
Purpose
The program is designed to increase awareness of accounting as a profession and show the variety of career opportunities available within the profession. The program goals are to:
- Increase awareness of the accounting and business professions as a career,
- Learn accounting and business concepts through structured activities,
- Increase skills and knowledge in personal finance and leadership,
- Familiarize students with the college "living" experience;
- Encourage students to attend college and/or transfer to a four-year institution.
Eligibility
The program is open to minority students who are currently high school juniors/seniors or state college freshmen. Students should be above average academically; though not a requirement, we suggest students have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students should be interested in exploring the field of business with an emphasis on accounting.
Application/Nomination Form
Teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators may nominate more than one qualified minority student. Each student must apply and be nominated by a teacher. Forms may be submitted electronically or printed and faxed/mailed. Submission deadline is Friday, April 13.

Registration Fee/Costs
The student registration fee is $75. Students who qualify for a free or reduced lunch may receive a full scholarship. Housing, meals, transportation and other program-related expenses during their stay are covered by the FICPA. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the University of South Florida.
Students and teachers will be notified of acceptance by Friday, May 4. Information on the registration fee and other program details will be provided to students once they have been selected to attend.
Students cancelling by May 29, 2012 will receive a full refund of their registration fee; otherwise the fee will be forfeited.

- Students are selected from schools throughout Florida
- Specially-designed curriculum teaches topics on business, accounting, personal finance, leadership, communication, admissions process, and the CPA profession

- On-site residency and social activities to expand students knowledge of college life
