About the Race
On behalf of the FICPA Educational Foundation and 1040K Run/Walk Board of Directors, we are excited to announce that we have some exciting new plans for the 23rd Annual 1040K Run/Walk. We have a new date, time and location for 2012. This year’s 1040K Run/Walk will be held the Saturday after tax day - Saturday, April 21 at 7:45 a.m.at Bill Baggs State Park in Key Biscayne. Proceeds from the event are awarded to African-American accounting students in South Florida in memory of Lewis Davis, Miami-Dade County’s first African-American CPA, community leader, and co-founder of the Greater Miami-South Florida Chapter - National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. This event has proven to have tremendous local support and has become a great experience for families and co-workers to get together for fun and exercise while contributing to a very worthwhile scholarship fund. It is important to continue this great support as we begin to take this race in a new direction so that we continue to raise significant funds for scholarship recipients. Since its inception in 1989, the 1040K has raised more than $250,000 in scholarship funds. Last year's race brought more than 900 participants. At the race, the FICPA Educational Foundation presented three $3,000 scholarships to deserving accountings students. Thanks to the support of our sponsors, the FICPA Educational Foundation has increased the amount and the number of scholarships awarded to students each year. The 1040K Run/Walk Board of Directors would like to thank the runners and walkers who contributed to the future of the CPA profession by participating in the race.
